Files & Folders


1) Files

A collection of data or information that has a name, called the filename. Almost all information stored in a computer must be in a file. 
There are many different types of files: data files, text files , program files, directory files, and so on.

2) Folders
 
A folder is a virtual location where programs, files, and other folders can be located. 
Computers with an Apple, Microsoft Windows, or other GUI operating system have folders to help users store and organize their files and are accessed using a File Manager.



You’re trying to below options a folder (or) file  on your Windows 7.
a) New folder
b) Selection
c) Open  
d) Rename
e) Delete
f)  Cut
g) Copy
h)Paste

a) New Folder:-
1.  Go to the location where you want to create a new folder.
2. Right-click a blank area on the desktop or in the folder window, point to New, and then click Folder.
3. Type a name for the new folder, and then press ENTER.

(or)
Press the 


Type a name for the new folder, and then press ENTER.

b) Selection:-

To Select the Folder or File on single click (left-click) in a Select your Folder or File. 

Selection the Multiple folders or files:-

Clicking and dragging a box around the files you want to select will select all files within that box, as shown in the animated picture to the above.
(or)
Click the first file, and then press and hold the Ctrl key.
While holding down the Ctrl key, click each of the other files you want to select.

c) Open:-

When you double-click a file, an associated program automatically opens if it's not already open.
When you double-click a folder, the folder opens in Windows Explorer.


d) Rename:-
Highlight or select the file or folder.

Right-click the file and click Rename from the menu that appears.

(or)

Highlight or select the file or folder.
Press the  button

e) Delete:-

You can also delete a file or folder by dragging it to the Recycle Bin, or by clicking the file or folder and then pressing DELETE.
To permanently delete a file without first moving it to the Recycle Bin, click the file, press SHIFT, and then press DELETE.

f) Cut:-
It allows us to cut the selected text in our document here we can select the file data at first after click the cut command. 
There is a possibility to moved information in our system in any place.

g) Copy:-
It allows us to copy the selected text information from the note pad application .
There is a possibility to paste the copied information into the specified location of the document.

h) Paste:-
It allows us to paste all cut and copied information in our document.

Types of Boxes in Windows


Whenever you open content (a program, picture, document, or video) the content will appear in a window.

Computer Boxes are classified in to 3 types.

Those are


1) Window Box:-
The following are a list of basic window control buttons.
Window box contains 3 Control buttons.


a) Minimize button:-
The Minimize button is on the left and looks like a minus sign. Clicking on the Minimize Button places the window on the task bar, usually found at the bottom of the screen. 

The windows is not closed or gone, it is simply out of the way of other windows, waiting to be opened or used again. 

To open the window again, click on it from the task bar.



b) Maximize/Restore buttons:-

The Maximize / Restore button is in the middle and has two states. When a window is “Full Size”, you can make it smaller. When the window is small, you can maximize it to full size.

c) Close:-
The Close button is the one on the right with the X. Clicking the Close button will close the window or program.

Note:-
You can also double-click the window's title bar to maximize it or restore it to its previous size.

2) Dialog box:-
The following are a list of basic dialog control buttons.
Window box contains 2 Control buttons.



a) Help:-

It is used for to display the particular option help. It means we can open the  option topics notes.


b) Close:-
The Close button is the one on the right with the X. Clicking the Close button will close the dialog box.


3) Message box:-
The following are a list of basic message control buttons.

Window box contains only one  Control button.
a) Close:-
The Close button is the one on the right with the X. Clicking the Close button will close the message box.

Start Button

If you click on start button Popup Menu will be appeared this menu is called start menu.
It contains the following options.

a) Shut down
b) Log off
c) Run Command
d) Search
e) Help
f) Programs
g) Control Panel

a) Shut down:-

It is used for to stop the system. It means we can stop the computer by using this option.


b) Log off:-
It is used to log off the system.
It means we can apply the security to the computer.
Without our pass word the system users can't open the specified user data.

c) Run Command:-
It is one of the useful options to enter the specified program without creating an object. 
But here we can use only executable names.

d) Search:-
It is very important option in the start menu. 
By using this option we can search the specified file name is available or not in our computer.

e) Help:-
It is used to display the system windows for help. 
It means we can open the windows topics notes.

f) Programs:-
It is used for to open the office or other files or applications . It means we can open any application processed through the programs.

g) Control Panel:-
It allows us to set the changes of the computer.
It means we can change the system properties like User Accounts, System security, Hardware & Sound settings, Uninstall programs display mouse effects or date and time etc.

Pop Up Menu


If you want to open the popup menu give right click on mouse button on the desktop. 

It contains the Following options. 

1. View
2. Refresh 
3. New
4. Screen Resolution
5. Gadgets
6. Personalize


1. View:-

It is used to change the icons properties like icon size, place, symbol and names,etc.
There is a possibility to hide or unhide the desktop icons & gadgets.

2. Refresh:-
It is used for to refresh the system and specified place or specified location.
Shortcut of Refresh (F5)

3. New:-

It is one of the important option in the popup menu by using this option we can create folders & files.

4. Screen Resolution:-

Screen resolution refers to the clarity of the text and images displayed on your screen. 
At higher resolutions, such as 1600 x 1200 pixels, items appear sharper.
The resolution you can use depends on the resolutions your monitor supports. 
CRT monitors generally display a resolution of 800 × 600 or 1024 × 768 pixels and can work well at different resolutions.

There are typical resolutions for some popular screen sizes:
19-inch screen (standard ratio) : 1280 x 1024 pixels
20-inch screen (standard ratio): 1600 x 1200 pixels
22-inch screen (widescreen)      : 1680 x 1050 pixels
24-inch screen (widescreen)      : 1900 x 1200 pixels

5) Gadgets:-
Windows contains mini-programs called gadgets, which offer information at a glance and provide easy access to frequently used tools.
Desktop gadgets can keep information and tools readily available for you to use.
Examples:-
i)  Calendar
ii) Clock 
iii)Weather
iv) Feed Headlines
v)  Slide Show
vi) Picture Puzzle

i) Clock:-
When you right-click the Clock, you'll see a list of things you can do with the gadget, including closing the Clock, keeping it on top of your open windows, and changing the Clock's options (such as its clock style, time zone, and appearance).
ii) Slide Show:-
When you point to Slide Show, the Close and Options buttons will appear near the upper-right corner of the gadget.
Clicking the Options button allows you to choose which pictures appear in your slide show, control the speed at which your slide show plays, and change the transition effect between pictures.

6) Personalize:-
You can add a personal touch to your computer by changing the computer's theme, color, sounds, desktop background, screen saver, font size, and user account picture. You can also select specific gadgets for your desktop.
A theme includes a desktop background, a screen saver, a window border color, sounds, and sometimes icons and mouse pointers. 
You can choose from several Aero themes. 
Use the whole theme or create your own customized theme by changing the pictures, colors, and sounds individually.
